Craft Room Makeover: Before

We have been living here at Big Creek for close to three months, and I have finally decided to perfect my craft area. I’ve worked on my area several times, but I just can’t seem to get everything exactly where I want it. Now it’s just getting on my nerves.

I set up shop in our sunroom, and I love working in here because of all the great natural light. FullSizeRender (17)When we get this leaky room reframed, I’ll have to make sure we get plenty of windows in here! It’s perfect for taking pictures of Etsy listings!

As you can see, I have the same old desk, and the antique sewing machine that I stole from Madre.FullSizeRender (18) I have since acquired my Mama Evelyn’s (Daddy-O’s Mom) Singer (on top of the desk) and her neat, retro sewing chest (left of the desk, brown with legs). Jimmie had them at her house, but she never used them, so she gave them to me. I haven’t tried the Singer out yet, because I already know how everything works on the dinosaur one. Plus, I’m still waiting on the table for Mama Evelyn’s sewing machine (wink, wink Jimmie).

I even set up my cool bookcases that I stole from Jimmie and painted for Tigger’s room years ago. I used the shelf holes to store my rolls of ribbon by threading them onto a dowel and wedging it into the holes. Coach helped by sharpening the points and making sure the length was just right. The only problem is, I can’t get to them because of my amazing easel that Daddy-O made for me.FullSizeRender (25)

Plus, I’m using this magnificent old Hoosier Cabinet for craft and paint storage, but it needs some TLC and organization.FullSizeRender (19)

Since we have a half an inch of ice accumulations (the Deep South’s version of a winter storm), I’m on it. I’ll have this room ready to go by the end of our shut-in, which could be several days.FullSizeRender (21)

Temperatures aren’t expected to get above freezing for the next few days, so when I finish getting the room in order, I plan to go on the momentum of the three (yes, three!) sales I had last week on Etsy and get to work on some new items. I can’t think of better motivation than deposits from Etsy!

Here’s hoping your weather is better than ours! We have plenty of food, a newly serviced and cranked up woodstoveFullSizeRender (22) (thanks, Coach!), and a decent stock of warming potions, FullSizeRender (23)so bring it, you nasty winter! Just not too much…you know we still need a new roof!
