New Makeup Trends 2016 | With Avon!

I’ve been doing my homework again, and I’ve discovered some really awesome…and not so awesome…new makeup trends 2016 for fall! You know me; I had to try some of these fall makeup looks out! I’ll show you the results today so you can decide which ones to keep, and which ones to toss with last week’s leftovers. And of course, you KNOW I’m creating all these looks with Avon!

New Makeup Trends for Fall

When I think about fall makeup trends in general, I’m usually envisioning warm colors.  For 2016, autumn makeup stars do include some warmth, but really there’s a lot more going on than just the colors of the changing leaves…thank goodness! I’m not a fan of orange and yellow when it comes to makeup, although some people can really pull it off! This year the trends are more about eyes that pop, deep berry lips, and, yes, the ever-classic red lipstick. Peach is making a comeback, too, but that’s just not for me. May peach never resurge in wedding wear!

kohl eyes are back!

What I’m most excited about with the new makeup trends 2016 is the resurgence of the kohl eyes! Yes, eyeliner is back in black! All the big names in fashion are talking about it, including Harper’s Bazaar and Cosmo! The runways are full of eyes rimmed in black, and I am loving it. I can’t pull off that heavy, smudgy look at my age, but I LOVE my black eyeliner! Here’s a look I tried out with kohl eyes fit for a 40-something. Rimming my eyes in black takes me back to my youth, and I can’t help but think of Joan Jett and loud concerts! WOOH!

Kohl eyes look best with a nude lip. The two just compliment each other! I’m wearing Avon Glimmmersticks Waterproof Eyeliner Blackest Night, and, believe it or not, nothing but cherry chapstick on my lips. This might be one reason I love the kohl eyes so much…I’m not a huge fan of lipstick.

lips for fall 2016

Having said that, I did have to try out two new makeup trends for lips, although one is not-so-new, just making a comeback. You know what I’m talking about: red lipstick looks! I don’t wear red lipstick, like ever, but I do like this look, and this red! It’s Avon, of course, and it’s the Ultra Color Lipstick in Red 2000. Classic makeup looks like this work for most everyone.

My favorite eye makeup for red lips is to keep it minimal, almost nude.  I’m wearing just a little Avon True Color Eyeshadow in Beige on my lid, and some Avon Super Shock Waterproof Mascara, that’s it.  Isn’t that classic? It still looks a little strange to me on my own face, but I’d try it for a day. When choosing eye makeup for red lips, go with what makes you comfortable…some hotties can pull off a full-on smoky eye and dark red lips together and it’s totally on point.  For me and my rapidly aging skin, I love that simple nude eye.

Do you see a pattern here? Smoky eye + nude lip, nude eye + red lip.  Try it out for yourself!

The second “new makeup trends 2016” look for lips I want to share is an ombre effect, which is really, really pretty and can be done in lots of different colors. I look best in berry and plum shades, or mauves, so I went that route for this look. (On my eyes I’m wearing the Avon Eye Dimensions Eyeshadow in Neutral Haze, Glimmersticks Eyeliner in Brown Chocolate, and the same mascara I linked above.)

Need to know how to do ombre lips? Simple…start with a dark color on the outer edges, and go with a lighter color on the inside, or the “pout”. I actually lined my lips with my Avon Glimmersticks Eyeliner in Brown Chocolate to make sure the look really popped. I used Avon True Color Perfectly Matte Lipstick in Superb Wine (one of Shape Magazine‘s fall faves!), applying with a small brush, to the outside edge and brushed it in just a little toward the center.  On the pout, I used the same lipstick in Perfectly Nude, then dabbed my lips together slightly just to blend the two.  I actually love this look, a lot!  I might be caught in public wearing lipstick, y’all!

fall makeup trends that leave me shaking my head

There are some new makeup trends for fall 2016 that I just can’t wrap my mind around.  Apparently fall lip colors are taking a dark turn…black, or almost black, lipsticks are huge this year. Deep berry lips, dark plum lips, and dark red lips are trending, too, and I can get on board with that. The black lips? Yeah, no. Not for me. Black lipstick is for the young!

Also, eyeliner is getting a little out of hand….there are some very, um, “creative” eyeliner looks on the runway.  You can click here and here to see what I mean. Imagine going to the Kroger with that kindergarten drawing on your face? I’d have people callin’ my mama on me! I decided to give these looks a whirl anyway, in the comfort of my own home. I’ll leave you with this little video of me trying some almost black lipsticks and an “artful” eyeliner look. I’ll stick to the classic makeup looks for the most part, thank you very much!

Overall, I’m pretty psyched about these new makeup trends 2016! I’ll always say yes to black eyeliner, and I’m definitely loving that ombre effect for lips! Hopefully there are some new makeup trends for fall that you love, too. Be sure to comment below with your faves!

Meanwhile, I’ll just go listen to some Joan Jett, while wearing my black eyeliner!
